A Sparkling 1940's Review

A "Sparkling 1940's Review" will be held on Saturday 22nd July at 7pm for 7.30 start at the Fullarton Community Centre, 411 Fullarton Road, Fullarton. A group of 4 singers (experienced in Musical Theatre and Jazz in the Adelaide scene) with accompanist will provide a wide range of much loved songs.   A great fun evening seated in "caberet style"  - tables of 8 or 10 available - or come as a small group.  Bring bottles of wine or other drinks, glasses and food..  Tea and coffee provided. Optional 40's dress - Prizes, Silent Auction, Mystery Wine Packages, Mystery Packages and Lucky numbers Funds raised will go to the2hproject for Midwife Training and Cataract Eye Surgery in Cambodia (www.the2hproject.com) Tickets $35 each. Empowering Young Women Through Education

Empowering Young Women Through Education is a program event designed to inspire, inform and energise young women to see how the education opportunities they have now will shape the lives they have in the future. A buffet breakfast is provided while students hear from inspirational speakers, participate in exciting activities and have the chance to meet and talk with professional women from a wide range of occupations. This offer is open to students in years 9–10; who are at risk of not completing Year 12 is limited to 1 table of 7 per school (including teacher/s). The event is held at the NAB Arena, Docklands in Melbourne.  Keynote Speakers:Annabelle Chauncy OAM, co-established the School For Life Foundation (SFL) in 2008. SFL is a grassroots organisation that has built and runs 2 schools in Rural Uganda, with a third school in development. The schools provide high quality education to morethan 400 primary students, including children with disabilities, vocational training to more than 100 adults, clean drinking water, electricity, community outreach and medical treatment to their surrounding communities. The school also runs a 10-acre farmthat provides food for the children and crops to fund the project. Annabelle will reveal the challenges and obstacles she faces as ayoung, foreign, female idealist with a dream and a passion to make a difference to the lives of others. Naty Guerrero-Diaz was born in Chile and when she was aged 8 she migrated to Australia with her family under a humanitarian visa. Naty struggled to fit in socially at primary school and during the early years of secondary school. After many years of bothpersonal and academic struggle, Naty is now working with a top tier commercial law firm and primarily practices in the area of health litigation. In 2014 Naty co-founded an Animal Sanctuary where resident animals and humans can live free from harm andwhere diversity and inclusion are embraced and practiced. Naty’s journey between then and now is truly admirable and inspirational. She will share her ups and her downs and her key strategies for coping and dealing with her life challenges fromteenager to now PRAISE FROM PAST ATTENDEES“The program opened my eyes to grab every opportunity that will come your way.”“Very inspiring to hear about these women's journeys and experiences”“Thank you for this opportunity for our students. SIWA Stella Giles Award 2017

Since 1989, Soroptimist International of Western Australia (SIWA) has presented the Stella Giles Award for Excellence to a Western Australian woman who has made a significant contribution in her chosen field allowing her to undertake a particular project or expand her skills and expertise for the benefit of women and girls. In 2017, the monetary grant for this award has been increased to a maximum of $10,000 and it has been renamed the Stella Giles Award for Achievement.

Farming in the School

On 12 May 2017, SI Bangsar met up with joint partners, Sentul Convent Secondary School for girls and a Social Enterprise, Eat, Shoots & Roots to plan the planting of eatable greens as a lifeskill for the urban girls. Due to the festive season of Eid, the planting will start late July. The project will be sustainable with enthusiatic support of the school and social enterprise partner. We plan to hand over the project to the school in two years' time.
