Guest Speaker Rachel Maker

Rachel Abuk Maker is one of the Lost Girls of South Sudan, who made it out of war-torn South - Sudan and found her purpose here in Queensland. From an early age she faced devastating tragedies that left her orphaned and with physical as well as emotional scars, to venturing thousands of miles seeking refuge in many countries - her story is one of fatality and adventure, brought together by perseverance, hope and love. Rachel came to Australia in 2002, 23 with 3 young children and now her family has now grown to consist of 8 children and 2 grandchildren. Over the years, Rachel has strived hard for her success, completing a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services and establishing “Lokutueng” an initiative that takes on the form of an organisation helping thousands of disadvantage Australians from many backgrounds. Amid all this success, Rachel has faced many battles of her own, in 2013 Rachel became the Victim of a vicious attack from within her own household, she has learnt many lessons from her ambiguous life that allowed her to again preserve through these dark times. Despite all that she has experienced, she still keeps a smile on her face! How does she do it? She quotes, “With God All Things are Possible”.
