Our speaker: Julie Spec - Gender Equity Officer for City of Greater Geelong

Julie Spec was born in Melbourne but grew up in Geelong. Raised by migrant parents
Julie learnt early that different people get treated differently whether it be because of
their gender, race, religion, sexuality or disability.

Julie had a career focused on human rights and gender equality working for many
years with refugees and asylum seekers both in Australia and abroad, starting out as a
community worker and progressing her career into International Development with the
United Nations Development Programme.

Back home Julie has worked for local organisations including Diversitat, Zena Collective, MacKillop Family
Services and the National Disability Insurance Agency. With Post graduate qualification in both Human
Rights and International Development Practice she is thrilled to be able to combine and pursue her passions
of development and gender with the City of Greater Geelong.
