A wonderful orientation and reception was held and hosted at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office on 10 March, for the CSW63 Soroptimist International delegates and friends. Guests had the opportunity to meet and hear from the SI NY UN Representatives, network and have fun! Welcome to New York!
Here our SISWP Scholarship Winner Kimberly Berem accounts her experience of the day.
My evening ended with attending this Soroptimist event organized by Soroptimists in New York.
Catherine Evans SWPProgramme Director had just made it in time for the program to start and within 5 minutes, I was called upon to address the Soroptimist Sisters and others to talk about how it feels being a scholarship winner and the work I do as a Soroptimist in my local club.
I was honored by the acknowledgement and opportunity to speak but I had to quickly arrange my thoughts as I had no notes, no slides to work with. However I told the audience a little about myself, my country and the work my club does as Soroptimists. I thanked the SWP Soroptimist South West Pacific for the tremendous opportunity which has enabled me to not only see New York City and learn from the sessions with the next 2 weeks and gain as much as I can to go home with a changed mindset ready to approach issues as discussed. I briefly mentioned the projects my SI Ramu Club has done last few years and what we currently working on.
I had a good reaction from the audience afterwards with few thumbs up, pats on the back, couple of business cards exchanged and quick snapshots taken with new SI Sisters I have just met and who will join the many wonderful other SI Sisters I already know. That is the beauty of networking.
Thank you Beverly Bucur and Sharon Fisher for putting me on the program this evening and to all Soroptimist in New York for the wonderful evening.
Met a few Soroptimist Sisters who we have only communicated via email or Facebook or through fellow Soroptimist sisters. It was awesome.
All glory and honor to God!
