Theresa Lyford Resized

Theresa Lyford

SI Australia President

SI Brighton & Southern Districts Inc, Australia

Theresa has worked in the Tertiary Education area in Australia for the last 30 years holding a variety of positions from Teacher through to Dean of School of Vocational Education. Her primary work has been with international students who study both in Australia and also at the various campuses overseas that the University has partnerships with in the South East Asian region. In latter years Theresa has been involved in the Governance of Universities currently holding a Chair of the Vocational Education Committee of the University’s Academic Board.

Theresa’s desire is to see that the opportunity to be tertiary educated for many women from all walks of life, cultures and ethnicities is often something that has been denied or seen as unobtainable, so it is wonderful to see young women undertake their studies and realise that they are able to make a difference in not only their own lives but in the lives of others within their communities.

Theresa has been a Soroptimist since 2003 and during that time she has served as Club President, Region President, Education Convenor, Membership Director for SISWP, and culminating in taking up the role of SISWP Federation President 2016 – 2018. After serving on the Soroptimist International Board for 7 years before and after being SISWP President, Theresa filled in as Assistant Programme Director 2 for SISWP for the year 2021 – 2022.

Theresa is looking forward to being part of the new Board of Directors for our organisation and the next phase of our evolution as a Soroptimist Federation.
